About Us
Bird Observation & Conservation Australia (BOCA) is a national organisation committed to the needs of bird watchers and to the conservation of birds and environmental management. Founded in 1991, the Townsville branch of BOCA, the Townsville Region Birds Observers Club (TRBOC), has an active membership of 60, some of who have received national recognition for their work in bird conservation. The members live mainly in the Townsville region and conduct regular bird counts and studies in the local area.
We hold Club meetings each month, usually with an interesting guest speaker; we conduct regular surveys of important birding sites and most months will arrange club outings to one of the many interesting locations in the region, (see Activities page). In addition to our bird watching activities, we have an active photography and social event groups; we provide educational support to local schools and participate in local conservation issues. Our newsletter, Drongo is recognised as one of the finest produced by a local birding organisation.
Guests and non-members are welcome to attend a couple of our outings but as a matter of courtesy and fairness we ask you to join BOCA., our Club’s parent, after a maximum of three free outings. All events are organised by volunteers who donate their time willingly in support of BOCA's aims.
